Nasya

30 – 45 minutes

Nasya is the Ayurvedic treatment of administering herbal oils, ghee, powders or decoctions through the nasal passages to cleanse the head region, enhance respiratory and mental function.

Nasya

About Nasya

Nasya (from Sanskrit “Nasa” meaning nose) is a classical Panchakarma therapy focused on nasal administration of medicated oils, ghee, powders or herbal decoctions. Considered the gateway to consciousness, the nose routes healing substances directly to the mind and head region, purifying accumulated toxins (ama), clearing dosha imbalances—particularly Vata and Kapha—and enhancing sensory, respiratory, and neurological health.

Treatment Process

1

Consultation

Ayurvedic physician assesses your prakriti (constitution) and condition to choose the appropriate Nasya type and formulation.

2

Purvakarma (Preparation)

Gentle massage and steam to head, face, neck, shoulders to loosen doshas and open channels.

3

Pradhanakarma (Main Procedure)

Lie down with head tilted back; place warm medicated oil, ghee, powder or decoction into each nostril (typically 3‑5 drops); inhale deeply and stay reclined briefly. Followed by gentle palm/sole/head massage.

4

Paschatkarma (Post‑treatment)

After treatment, perform mild massage, gargle warm water, and herbal smoking if applicable. Then rest, hydrate, avoid cold air, and follow dietary or activity recommendations.
